With the publication of its first sustainability report, GVL sets out clearly how it fulfils its responsibilities.

As a collecting society, GVL helps to provide remuneration for creative works, thereby strengthening the foundations of a diverse cultural and creative landscape. In this context, sustainability means promoting cultural diversity, using resources responsibly, creating sustainable structures and acting transparently.

Culture as the fourth dimension of sustainability

A distinctive feature of GVL’s understanding of sustainability is the role of culture. Alongside the established dimensions of the environment, social issues and corporate governance, culture is regarded as a fourth dimension. This approach reflects the core of its statutory mandate: to promote creative work and support cultural diversity in the long term.

A drive towards greater transparency

The first sustainability report was produced against the backdrop of European developments in the field of sustainability reporting. Even in the absence of a legal obligation, this initiative was seized upon as an opportunity to take a systematic look at sustainability and to present existing activities transparently. The report highlights how GVL fulfils its responsibilities and the contribution it makes to the sustainable development of culture, society and the organisation itself.
