GVL supports modern copyright

GVL supports today's initiative "World Book and Copyright Day" which UNESCO has invited people to observe since 1995.

Only a sufficient protection of the rights belonging to artists and the creative industry enables a cultural diversity to thrive. A modern and up-to-date copyright is therefore necessary and one of the most important tasks for cultural and educational policy.

GVL represents interests of more than 140,000 members worldwide and has been supporting an equitable remuneration for artists, producers and event organisers for more than fifty years. In order to guarantee this in future, an adaptation of the legal framework conditions to the increasingly digitised media exploitation is necessary, said GVL Managing Directors Guido Evers and Dr. Tilo Gerlach. "Today marks the occasion to make yourself aware of the value of artistic performances and creativity for our society. In contrast, current legal policy tasks are pressing: the implementation of the extension of the protection period for neighbouring rights in the current legislative period are exemplary, furthermore the necessary improvements of private copying fees and an effective protection against piracy", explain Gerlach and Evers.
