LEA honours top backstage talents
The jury - a committee consisting of music sector and media experts - awarded the LEA to the winners across 14 categories for their successfully organised shows, tours, festivals and events as well as outstandingly well managed locations. The assessment territory for the awards was extended this year to the neighbours from Austria and Switzerland. German TV channel's ZDF presenter Ingo Nommsen hosted the gala night, just like in the previous years.
Roland "Balou" Temme scooped up the "Jury's Prize" for Udo Lindenberg's legendary "Panik Crew"; the artist himself handed over the prize to his backstage team together with an emotional speech. The Electronic-Dance City "Parookaville" was awarded Festival of the Year; it had been created from scratch at the airport Weeze near Düsseldorf in 2015. The sophisticated city concept by Parookaville, where laws like "madness, love and pure happiness" rule, excited (not just) the jury. Helene Fischer won the category "Stadium Tour of the Year" with her "Farbenspiel Tournee 2015" [colour play tour 2015], which is brought to life by the Semmel Concerts Entertainment; the extravagant cable rope by means of which the organisers let the performer fly over the heads of her fans, convinced the jurors.
GVL's slogan "The world is a stage. We support the act" also symbolically represents promoters' and organisers' activities - with the exception of this very evening, where the best event organisers, artists' agents, tour and concert managers don't just appear on stage - quite contrary to that, they are actually awarded prizes and celebrated. Guido Evers and Dr. Tilo Gerlach, Managing Directors of GVL stated: "GVL manages the secondary exploitation rights on national and international level for the important category of event organisers and stage producers. What's special about this prize is that it honours people who do not appear on stage but promote gigantic shows and unique music experiences - backstage, incessantly giving their all," the two Managing Directors add in relation to the importance of the awards. Furthermore, GVL held an expert workshop at the subsequent music trade fair, boasting around 1,100 exhibitors from the creative sector. The workshop presented an opportunity for performing artists and young producers to gather bespoke information on GVL and on their remuneration entitlements.
