Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Peter Ruzicka represents conductors and music directors on the Board
Prof. Ruzicka was appointed to represent the group of conductors and music directors by the associates of GVL, the German Orchestra Association (DOV) and the Federal Association of the Music Industry (BVMI). Reason for this change in Prof. Ruzickas role was the request by our supervisory authority, the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA), to end an over-representation of event organisers in the Board by deleting the previous seat for an appointed representative of event organisers and appoint an additional representative for conductors and music directors instead. This role is now taken on by Prof. Ruzicka; Ronny Unganz (German State Opera, Berlin), remains representative of event organisers on the Board and has been re-elected for a term of three years during the rights holders' assembly in February 2014.
With Prof. Ruzicka, conductor and music director, members of GVL have gained a representative with great experience, not only because of his main activity as a conductor. He has been a member of the GVL Board since 1980, and has also been active as the Chairman of the Complaints Committee. His understanding for the issues of our members is based on many years of professional experience: After his studies of law and music, and his subsequent doctorate he has been active as a composer, conductor and artistic director to this day. Since 1990, he has been a lecturer at the Hamburg College for music and theatre.
Prof. Ruzicka gladly accepts the appointment to be a representative for the group of conductors and music directors: "I am pleased that by being appointed to this role, I can continue to be a member of the Board, which I joined in 1980." GVL's Managing Directors, Dr. Tilo Gerlach and Guido Evers also look forward to a continuation of the good cooperation with Prof. Ruzicka: "In the last 34 years, Prof. Ruzicka has already been a great support to us with his expertise and professional experience on many different occasions. As a representative of the conductors and music directors, he will continue to be a strong support for the Board."
