Register for web radio licenses digitally now

GVL expands its lizenz.gvl portal

GVL is continuing to expand its range of digital services for users. Starting now, web radio operators can also manage their licenses online via lizenz.gvl.de. This makes GVL licensing for music use significantly simpler: registration, contract signing, and billing will now be handled entirely digitally and paperlessly, directly through the licensing portal.

Get started easily, keep track of everything

Web radio stations can register in just a few steps and acquire their licenses in a legally compliant manner. All contract documents are centrally available and can be accessed at any time.

David Abraham, the contact person for web radio stations at GVL, comments: “Our goal was to make access to licensing as straightforward as possible. Web radio operators can now sign up in just a few steps and get started right away, without any bureaucratic hurdles.”

Transparent and digital billing

Processing is also significantly simpler: invoices, reports, and certificates can be submitted and managed directly within the portal. An integrated invoice archive ensures maximum transparency.

“Digital billing significantly reduces the workload on both sides. Our licensees have access to all relevant data at any time and can manage their processes much more efficiently,” says Susanne Scharlipp, responsible for web radio billing at GVL.

With the expansion of lizenz.gvl, GVL is further advancing its digitalization efforts. The licensing portal launched in early 2025 for private radio stations and has since been gradually developed and opened to additional user groups. The goal is to make licensing and billing simpler, faster, and more transparent for all parties involved.

Who is required to obtain a license?

Anyone who operates a web radio station that continuously broadcasts music over the Internet during its broadcast hours is required to obtain a license.
