Welcome to Berlin!
The past year at GVL has been marked by exchange: international meetings such as the IFPI's PRC meeting, the DACH meeting with LSG and Swissperform, and the visit by participants of the MEWEM mentoring programme provided opportunities for dialogue on licensing, rights management and developments in the creative industry.
GVL and IFPI invited guests to Berlin for the PRC meeting
In May 2025, the European Performance Rights Committee (PRC) meeting took place in Berlin. Around 100 international representatives of collecting societies and labels from over 30 countries accepted the invitation from the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) and GVL. The two-day meeting of the global music industry association focused on the exchange of information on technological developments and challenges in the licensing of neighbouring rights. The aim of the PRC meeting is to further develop international standards and strengthen cross-border cooperation.
Three-country meeting of collecting societies in Berlin
In April 2024, the annual three-country meeting of collecting societies in the DACH region took place – this time in Berlin. GVL welcomed colleagues from Swissperform in Zurich and LSG in Vienna for an intensive exchange.
The focus was on best practices and technical and legal issues relating to licensing and data exchange. GVL Managing Directors Guido Evers and Dr Tilo Gerlach emphasised the importance of this annual meeting: it serves to highlight key issues beyond day-to-day business and thus strengthen cross-border rights management.
All three societies represent performing artists and producers as joint societies for neighbouring rights in their respective countries, with a shared focus on the German-language repertoire.
MEWEM visits GVL
In early 2024, GVL welcomed participants in the VUT's nationwide MEWEM mentoring programme for female, trans and non-binary young talents in the music industry. GVL colleagues explained in detail how GVL works and what young creatives and labels need to do to receive their remuneration.
