With this final distribution, GVL concludes the distribution for the usage year 2020. All funds, including provisions, that are available to us for this year will be distributed.
In total, around €20.2 million will be paid out in the final distribution for 2020. 170,872 performing artists participated in the distribution. These are all rights holders who have reported their contributions to used productions by the deadline.
In order to be able to participate in the final distribution for the 2021 usage year, we ask rights holders to submit their contributions to us by 31.12.2024.
This deadline also applies to Radio/TV -extra formats (e.g. individual contributions in non-fictional formats, commercials, documentaries).
Last week, GVL forwarded remuneration from abroad to its entitled recording producers for the second time this year. Now the international royalties for performing artists will be following as planned. A total of around EUR 3.8 million will be distributed this quarter. The payments originated this time from Switzerland, Spain, Italy, the UK, Japan and Sweden, among others.
Among other things, the year-end accounts and the 2023 transparency report were received and adopted at the meeting. In addition, the Associates' and Delegates' Assembly supplemented the list of channels to be evaluated in the 2023 distribution plans.
Detlev Tiemann, Chairman of the Associates' and Delegates' Assembly, explains:
This distribution relates to sound recording productions in the years 1963-1971 whose term of protection was extended from 50 to 70 years. In this distribution, contributions from the years 1968 to 1971 are remunerated the first time.
As provided by law, GVL passes on 20% of the sales income from 2019 to 2022 to the contributing musicians who do not receive any licence payments.
The European elections are in a fortnight' time. At a time when fundamental democratic values in Germany and Europe are coming under increasing pressure, it is more important than ever to send out a strong signal against hatred and populism. Art and music can only be free in democratic societies. Just as creativity cannot exist without a plurality of voices, our society also thrives on diversity and the harmony of different lifestyles and cultures.
Dear beneficiaries,
we are happy to inform you that you can now also find the productions in the artist portal that were first broadcast in 2023 on the channels evaluated by GVL.
All media types - sound recordings, films and series, broadcast stage productions, radio music productions, radio spoken word productions and video clips - can now be found via the product search, so that you can report your contributions.
