BFFS demands that broadcasters and producers to be subject to an obligation to provide information

In a position paper, the Federal Association of Actors (BFFS) addressed politicians at the beginning of October. In it, the GVL shareholder requests that an obligation for broadcasters and producers to provide information to collective management organisations for films should be anchored by statute.

It should be ensured that the producers provide the data with unique identifiers and that the broadcasters should then pass them on to GVL accordingly. Such direct access for GVL to the required contribution and production details would make a significant contribution to improve the quality of the data received by GVL, among others, and to ensure a valid data collection of the collective management organisations in the long term.

Some background: In order to carry out its operations, GVL depends on the data submission by third parties, among others, the usage data by the broadcasters. GVL is facing the challenge of having to determine and correct missing or wrong information in small-scale operations subject to high costs. GVL therefore also holds the view that unambiguous and complete broadcast details which can be provided e.g. via an obligation to use identifiers, are thus an indispensable basis for a fast and faultless distribution.
