Interim report on corona relief programmes and advance payments

All the latest information on GVL's corona support scheme and the current status of advance payments for performers.

GVL is doing everything possible to provide the best possible support in this exceptional situation. In order to be able to provide visible help in the short and medium term, we established the € 250 emergency aid programme for freelance corona victims as quickly as possible in mid-March, which has since been taken up by well over 7,000 freelancers.

In addition, these artists can also receive advance payments on their GVL payments, which will be paid out at the end of May. A total of around 4,600 rightsholders opted for this advance in April. Almost 3,000 rightsholders who had applied for the € 250 emergency aid (this corresponds to approx. 40% of these applications) decided against the advance for tax reasons, among others.

The advances amount to between €250 and €9,000, depending on the level of payments that those in question can expect to receive at present and in the next ten years. The challenge for GVL is to estimate the future revenue situation of GVL. Depending on how severe and how long the effects of the corona-related economic losses are, the licence fees collected by GVL will also be affected. It is very difficult to make forecasts in this area. Since the advances on individual remuneration claims are paid from the proceeds collected on a fiduciary basis, they had to be calculated with a sense of proportion. With the advance programme, GVL can make a contribution to the financial support of creative people, which complements government and other support measures. GVL is planning to start paying the advances next week.

In addition to the advance payment, all performers will receive the remuneration as part of the final distribution 2013-2014, which will be paid in August. These distributions will not be used to offset the advances; this year they will only be offset against the other distributions.

The advances will benefit all creative groups represented in GVL, especially musicians, dancers and actors.
