Overview

The importance of solidarity in the creative sector during the pandemic

Culture is an indispensable part of a society and creates space for understanding and community, for exchange and democracy. Together with the leading associations of the music industry, among them the four shareholders of GVL, we stood up for the interests of more than 160,000 rights holders in the corona year at social and political levels.

The lockdowns shook the existence and the foundations of many of our rights holders: among them event organisers, performers and many music labels, particularly the smaller ones. We cannot renounce on culture in times where we drift apart as a society, also inflamed by COVID-19.

This is why, together with our partners in the culture and creative sectors, we have supported and advocated a comprehensive package of measures to protect the rather closely interlinked creative business.

Neustart Kultur

With NEUSTART KULTUR, the Federal Government launched a rescue and future programme for the culture and media sector in June 2020. Initiative Musik, with GVL being its main associate, has since then been an active contributor to the programme initiated by Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, Monika Grütters. GVL has been allocating scholarships amounting to €30m in the course of the NEUSTART KULTUR programme to freelance performers.
