Working together for the creative sector with passion and commitment
GVL is a reliable partner and convinced supporter for the German creative sector. With its commitment and its support, it is contributing to Germany’s cultural landscape remaining as diverse and vivid in future. Issuing statements regularly and participating in campaigns in close cooperation with our shareholders’ associations and partners continued to be a central pillar of this engagement in 2023.
GVL supports international Human Artistry Campaign
In autumn 2023, GVL stood up for the regulation of AI-generated music and is supporting the cross-sector alliance “Human Artistry Campaign”. Various organisations from more than 30 countries, among them our shareholders BVMI and VUT, and now GVL itself, are standing behind this important initiative.
Joint appeal: “100 Jahre Radio – Hört. Nie. Auf.“[100 years of radio. Never. Stop(s). Listening.]
At the occasion of the programme review of the Bayerischer Rundfunk [Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation] the Forum Musikwirtschaft, the Deutsche Musikrat, GEMA and GVL made a joint appeal. In their declaration, they emphasise the continued high relevance of radio as a medium for the music business, particularly with a view to local repertoire and newcomers.
Campaigning for adequate remuneration
GVL is demanding fair tariffs for “public performance”. In the middle of 2023, we took the initiative to check the tariffs for the public performance sector. These types of remuneration are an important pillar for GVL’ financing, apart from broadcasting and private copying. In the interest of its performer rights holders and labels, GVL therefore demands an increase in the tariffs. They currently stand at a mere 26 percent compared to the tariffs for composers and lyricists for radio and TV.
