GVL on tour internationally
The most important events in the international calendar of events include the General Assembly of the International Confederation of Performers' Rights Societies (SCAPR) and the meeting of international producers' representatives in the Performance Rights Committee (PRC Meeting): Both meetings took place in May and GVL was present as one of the leading societies.
Associates' and Delegates' Assembly meets for summer session
At the meeting, among other things, the year-end accounts and the transparency report 2022 were adopted and decided upon. Details can be found in the current press release (14 June 2023).
Furthermore, the Associates' and Delegates' Assembly approved further grants within the framework of the Ukraine aid against the background of the ongoing war.
GVL advocates tariff increase in the area of public performance
In addition to the revenues from broadcasting and private copying, remunerations from public performance of artistic recordings are a main pillar of GVL licensing. In the interests of its rights holders, the GVL is seeking an appropriate increase in tariffs in this area.
GVL forwards foreign remuneration to performing artists and recording producers
In this distribution round, a total of approximately 2.6 million Euros from all over the world will be distributed to our rightsholders this time.
This time, our recording producers receive remunerations from Great Britain, Sweden, Estonia, Lithuania and the USA, among others. Moreover, we forward money to our performing artists from Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Austria and others. For the first time, our musicians also receive usage-based payments from Brazil.
GVL year-end accounts 2022: For the third COVID-19-year running, revenues are stable
Overall, Guido Evers and Dr Tilo Gerlach, Managing Directors of GVL, give a positive review for 2022 and the COVID-19 times: “We managed to yield satisfactory results in the third pandemic year running. Furthermore, we navigated GVL through these changing times with economic success and achieved historic maximum levels for our payouts. At the same time, we used this special phase to significantly develop from a technical and organisational perspective.”
Clear communication and superior service are important to us
Performers: Distribution of remuneration arising from the extension of the term of protection
This distribution relates to sound recording productions in the years 1963-1967 whose term of protection was extended from 50 to 70 years. In this distribution, contributions from the years 1965 to 1967 are remunerated the first time.
As provided by law, GVL passes on 20% of the sales income from 2016 to 2018 to the contributing musicians who do not receive any licence payments.
GVL forwards foreign remuneration
"We are especially happy for our actors and actresses because they will receive remuneration from France for the first time. After many years of negotiations and one year after signing the contract, we initially received about 1.5 million euros from our French sister society ADAMI, which we are now delighted to pass on," summarises Burkhard Sehm, Head of Legal and Business Affairs.
Becoming a rights holder: Even simpler now
A few days ago, the new rights administration agreement has been published on the GVL website. What does this mean for GVL and its future rights holders specifically?
Jenny: GVL takes an important step in the direction of a paperless collective management organisation by opting for the new online rights administration agreement. Rights holders now have no longer paper in their hands, the entire process has been digitised entirely with the new rights administration agreement.
