GVL advocates tariff increase in the area of public performance
In addition to the revenues from broadcasting and private copying, remunerations from public performance of artistic recordings are a main pillar of GVL licensing. In the interests of its rights holders, the GVL is seeking an appropriate increase in tariffs in this area.
Music usage: Termination of two tariffs for public performance
Both tariffs were terminated vis-à-vis the Federal Association of Music Broadcasters (BVMV) on 31 December 2022. The GVL will have the tariffs reviewed in arbitration proceedings. Without recognising the previous tariff level and in the interest of mutual planning security, the interim, i.e. temporary, continued application of the current tariffs was agreed with the Federal Association of Music Promoters until a legally binding decision is reached. The agreement to exclude the retroactive effect of tariffs set in the future also works in favour of users outside BVMV.
BFFS demands that broadcasters and producers to be subject to an obligation to provide information
It should be ensured that the producers provide the data with unique identifiers and that the broadcasters should then pass them on to GVL accordingly. Such direct access for GVL to the required contribution and production details would make a significant contribution to improve the quality of the data received by GVL, among others, and to ensure a valid data collection of the collective management organisations in the long term.
