Transparency Report and Digital Annual Report for 2022 published

In this edition, we are looking back on a rather eventful 2022. GVL income has significantly exceeded our expectations with an amount of €235.4m in 2022. When looking back on the three COVID-19-years, GVL managed to navigate its way through the challenging times of the past years rather successfully. At the same time, we used this period to undertake crucial steps regarding the technical and organisational development of GVL.

Producers*: Video clip distributions 2019 to 2022 completed

Today, the GVL has instructed the payments of the distribution proceeds determined. Rights holders can find further information and their individual detailed reports at label.gvl.de. If the results do not lead to additional distributions, you will not receive any payment notifications accordingly.

GVL forwards foreign remuneration to performing artists and recording producers

Already earlier this month, international revenues were distributed to the entitled performing artists. Now, as planned, the remuneration for recording producers will follow these days. As in the previous year, we have thus achieved our goal of distributing royalties from abroad to our rightsholders on a quarterly basis.

Producers: Subsequent distributions of sound recordings 2019 to 2021 started

As of today, the GVL is making the payouts for the subsequent distributions of sound recordings 2019 to 2021 to its rights holders. The individual distribution results and, in the case of additional remuneration, the corresponding payment notifications are now available on the label.gvl portal.

GVL on tour internationally

The most important events in the international calendar of events include the General Assembly of the International Confederation of Performers' Rights Societies (SCAPR) and the meeting of international producers' representatives in the Performance Rights Committee (PRC Meeting): Both meetings took place in May and GVL was present as one of the leading societies.

Associates' and Delegates' Assembly meets for summer session

At the meeting, among other things, the year-end accounts and the transparency report 2022 were adopted and decided upon. Details can be found in the current press release (14 June 2023).

Furthermore, the Associates' and Delegates' Assembly approved further grants within the framework of the Ukraine aid against the background of the ongoing war.

GVL advocates tariff increase in the area of public performance

In addition to the revenues from broadcasting and private copying, remunerations from public performance of artistic recordings are a main pillar of GVL licensing. In the interests of its rights holders, the GVL is seeking an appropriate increase in tariffs in this area.

GVL forwards foreign remuneration to performing artists and recording producers

In this distribution round, a total of approximately 2.6 million Euros from all over the world will be distributed to our rightsholders this time. 

This time, our recording producers receive remunerations from Great Britain, Sweden, Estonia, Lithuania and the USA, among others.  Moreover, we forward money to our performing artists from Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Austria and others. For the first time, our musicians also receive usage-based payments from Brazil.

GVL year-end accounts 2022: For the third COVID-19-year running, revenues are stable

Overall, Guido Evers and Dr Tilo Gerlach, Managing Directors of GVL, give a positive review for 2022 and the COVID-19 times: “We managed to yield satisfactory results in the third pandemic year running. Furthermore, we navigated GVL through these changing times with economic success and achieved historic maximum levels for our payouts. At the same time, we used this special phase to significantly develop from a technical and organisational perspective.”

GVL forwards foreign remuneration

"We are especially happy for our actors and actresses because they will receive remuneration from France for the first time. After many years of negotiations and one year after signing the contract, we initially received about 1.5 million euros from our French sister society ADAMI, which we are now delighted to pass on," summarises Burkhard Sehm, Head of Legal and Business Affairs.
